WARNING: Spoilers on all directions! You've been warned!

Really, the book and series that influenced the Dragon Age game, yet I can't find a topic for it. Alas, and so it is done, a thread for this amazing series!

Just to gush out my love for the GoT series, it's awesome to note that the Oathkeeper, the sword you could get from completing Lothering's Chantry Board, is directly based on the sword of the same name, specifically the sword of Brienne of Tarth.

Also looking forward to the next series. I'm still holding back my thoughts on how would Jon Snow return (he will, definitely), blogs already gave their own theories, but I'm leaning towards to him being revived in some way, either by the red god or by the white walkers. Only time will reveal.

Alot of ppl are speculating JSnow's return in some way.

The other thing interesting is how the actors that play the young Starks.. how all of them are going to have grown by leaps and bounds (i mean in real life)..
I want to know what happens with Khalessi and her imp advisor.. =)

And how come all these shows start up at the same time.. i'm also set for when Vikings comes back.. i like am addicted to a bunch of shows..
... and then there's PALA (you know.. that lil warrior dwarf).

dragon age was inspired by GOT? thats the first time ive ever heard of that.

im reading the books more or less parallel to the show, and i gotta say it doesnt really have me hooked anymore in either form. im at around page 600 on a feast for crows and i havnt been reading in months cause all the intriduing parts of the story have been completely forgotten it appears :/
also in the 5th season of the show they left out pretty much everything thats in the book and theres still not a whole lot happening it feels like oO

i dunno.. if it doesnt pick up again soon towards the end of aFfC, and if it continues on like that in aDwD, i may not even finish it

Influenced, more or less, especially the intrigues and killing time of GoT (I read it in multipl pages of DA wikia). I felt that same feeling for the series and the game.

Anyways, not a reader of Song of Fire and Ice, mainly a fan of the series alone.

I think its true when people always say to watch the show before reading the book. This is very true for GoT as there are many major differences between them. Both are awesome but I find the books are way better.

But I guess this doesn't matter anymore as the author and producers have said that the show and book will be digressing from each other in the coming book and season 6.

from what i can tell theyre digressing quite a bit already, and will continue to do so ofc. after the first couple of seasons they could already tell theyd overtake the books in storyline progression anyway, so i assume it was actually mandatory to take it into different directions completely, as not to inverse-spoiler the books towards the end. still i was pretty disappointed in season 5 tbh, as i am with a feast for crows as well :/

guess we shall see what the future brings -.-

in terms of getting inspired, i think i heard martin say many times that he thinks tolkien is the father or any grand fantasy. but even tolkien surely wasnt truly the first to come up with everything. no one can tell what inspired him to create hobbits and orcs and such.. everything is inspired by something that came before.

its the same as when sci-fi discussions go on and on about how starcraft stole from warhammer 40k, but WH40k actually stole from alien which stole from starship troopers, and so forth..

By proxy. GoT is indeed borrowed heavily from LotR, and is supposed to end the same way (I have no idea what that is because the writing in LotR was so bad, I couldn't finish the first book :/).

I'm a huge GoT fan and am eagerly waiting for the 6th season, though all the promotional material has really disappointed me so far. GoT is keeping everything extremely low-key given that the source material isn't out so nothing's come of the teasers. I was fully expecting for this season to visit a few places we've only heard about so far in the books that still hold a lot of really important secrets (Greywater Watch, Tower of Joy) but at this point as long as the plot advances I'll be happy with the season.
                |OG| |GOT| Azor Ahai

Darkness lay over the world and Azor Ahai was chosen to fight it. Twice, he forged legendary swords. Twice, they broke when he tempered them.

The third time, with a heavy heart, for he knew what he must do, he worked for a hundred days and nights. This time, he called for his wife, Nissa Nissa, and asked her to bare her breast. He drove his sword into her living heart, her soul combining with the steel of the sword, creating Lightbringer.

How dare you start this thread without pinging me, first of all

I'm curious about the downfall of the Boltons-will it be Baelish's Eyrie army? We know the Greyjoy's will be involved this season but how? What's up with Jorah's Greyscale? Will someone let Rhaegal and Viserion out of the catacombs? What will Sansa do? If the Dothraki won't cross the sea, will Daenerys change their mind and influenced them to join her in her quest? Are the three dragons the only ones who can really stop the White Walkers with their fire?

                    [FRANTICALLY DODGES SPOILERS]

Here's the deal: I have not watched Game of Thrones, though I've heard a lot of great things about it. It seems like it would be a huge time sink, however, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to dedicate the time. But I'm undecided, so if someone wants to pitch the show to me I'd appreciate it. Is it really worth sacrificing the time for, and where might I catch up if I do decide to go for it?

It's absolutely worth the time, Alduin.

Tldr-It's fantasy in the best possible way. Basically four main houses fight for the throne (and a few other non-main, equally interesting houses join the fight too.) Lies, betrayal, amazing character arcs, sex, violence, poison, hints of magic, and twists you won't recover from for weeks.

I know I'll get murdered for this, but my personal opinion is that GoT is much better than Lord of the Rings. Much better. Go watch it.

Most likely, in my opinion. The only faction/army that could trample the Bolton's would be the Eyrie (aside from the other main houses). And there is really a forthcoming for this, as Baelish finally got his approval to sack the Boltons, Sansa was his ace to do so.

Curious as well, might be used a tragic pivot for the plot. All I could wish is for him to simply cut off the hand ala Jaime Lannister and begone with it.

i can't say much about the others, there's really no hint on what will happen next.

In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                              1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.
Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                              2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                              3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                              4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                              5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                              6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                              7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
