  • Getting back to the quicks

Last Gw was awesome. After talking to quite a few people it seems most are in agreement.I believe many enjoyed it because it wasn’t a long slow grind fest but it was a banner race.
What’s funny is most people(myself included) had gotten tired of every war being a kitty war and we cried for more strategy. Then cg gave us just that and we quickly realized strategy is fine and dandy until you are slogging at the top and it’s win 3 fights lose one and when this happens when your north of 12k banners you tend to get stuck in the muck.
So Id like to hear others thoughts on this but my hypothesis is speed is great for gws and 5 round strategy fights are better for pg and pvp. Please community share so cg can get a pulse on this and accommodate the community!

I may be hated for saying this but I actually enjoyed the King Alistair meta, it was a good balance between offence and defence which usually lasted 2 to 3 rounds. Personally I find the current meta passive drain teams with SSM, PW, THO and Wryme etc to be a bit too slow, at least when Kitty was dominant the battles were fast enough to prevent grinding being a chore. I'm not complaining, just personal preference. I'd like to see some new heroes with power drain resistance to help even out the playing field again. At the moment we're more or less back to having just one viable type of squad.

i dont think its that we need more heros with powerdrain resistance i think its just that we need the ones with immunity to actually work. As of now powerdrain immunity is useless and bugged because of wyrme/multiple other bugs, but if it actually worked i could see other teams prevailing over the drain meta.

I like strategy as well but imo during gw it gets frustrating when even with strategy that top team battles come down to rng.If you are under 10k you can always find battles but in a few previous gws once you were over 12k all teams were the same and though you can boost your rng chances you still would lose 25% of time and with banners degradation it could be excercise in futility.
As I stated above I like more strategic slow battles in pg and pvp but that’s not to say I don’t like strategy in gws.I just feel there needs to be a middle ground for strategy and speed.Ill grind no matter what but some really slow gws I’ve noticed it seemed like less people competing(at least it seemed at the higher levels anyway).I thought it was perhaps because of the slow plodding pace(could be wrong).
Appreciate the responses so far guys, thanks

I really like strategical battles, for pg and pvp, I think it's a fair point on giving only a power bonus in order to grind fast, but maybe on a GW that involves a bonus to drain and/or long battle teams.

I agree, I also prefer quick matches at GW, because you need to do banners faster and if you want to go for the banner stretch and go for 12 or 14k, slow matches at the top can be a nightmare, when players are using the similar squads with runes at the top to do 14k can be painful if you work and don't have a lot of free time and the matches are slow and most of times the result of the match is at random when you are on 12-14k position.
I also prefer slow and strategical matches for PG.

Not to mention we had 3 wars in a row where nobody got banner stretch(I believe).Though I believe cg was adjusting to new high health as well!

S/P GWs are a 100% bore. Anyone with the will to forego sleep (or those accounts played by multiple people) can win. In my view, a guild war shouldn’t simply be a battle of endurance. I much prefer one that involves careful planning, purpose built squads, and sophisticated tactics.

All that aside, there hasn’t been a viable strategy-based guild war in months. The assassination and drain exploits pretty well stymie any attempt at strategic gameplay. There are some other cards that also throw sand in the strategic gears (namely FB and TB). Once the exploits are resolved and perhaps the aforementioned cards are modified, we can accurately assess gameplay. Until then it’s a trip into fanatsy.

While I agree with almost anything there's also the THO, the cheese teams that exploit drain that you mentioned, but for a reason at least on the THO battles, they last long long, ofc they won't be so long with PD inmunity working well, I prefer 2-3 round battles to 1 round quick ones or 10 round pain ones.

eh i understand that things need to be fixed, but I haven't seen much yet that doesn't have a reasonably quick counter (2-3 rounds runed up on both teams).
I'll agree that using teams working on broken functions in a D slot is a bit lackluster in the strategy department, but then again, most people are playing teams that more or less, "the hardest to beat".
I think working against broken functions like the former 4x Barts and now broken drain immunity through Wryme inspires some tactical creativity behind the scenes. One of the other things that has changed the scope of all of these events, is we now only show 1 team, but have wizard magic going on behind the other doors.

Once Wryme is fixed we'll hopefully once again see some more variety in D slots, but even now dupe THO, Wryme and Kitty have a few different counters that won't go into high rounds.

Part of this sounds like people aren't understanding what "Banner Stretch" is supposed to mean. It's not meant to be easy. It's meant to be attainble, but certainly not easy. This last war, we saw 35 players hit the stretch. This is right in the realm of what we're really going for. It should be the best of the best. We've got the MVP prizes for the Top 10, and this banner stretch is for those who push themselves that extra bit.

If you're not able to reach it, it's because you either haven't figured out the right strategy for getting there, or you simply weren't able to put in the time. Yes, it's a combination of the two ultimately, but we certainly don't want to see what happened when SSM was the 14k banner stretch goal again, with players cheesing it to get there.

It's ok to not be the best. And it's ok to not get everything all the time. That gives you something to strive for to improve yourself. It should feel like an accomplishment when you hit that stretch goal.

In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                            1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.
Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                            2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                            3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                            4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                            5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                            6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                            7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
