  • New hero mechanics

In the last few months we've come a long way towards a more balanced end game (admittedly still waiting for several factions to be revamped). It's great to see so many counters to various squads which is to be applauded.

However I still think there is one team style without an effective counter. Dupe stealth quick squads which just steam roll other teams. Just as Hivernal provided a viable way to protect against unstealthed quick squads i'd like to suggest the following mechanic.

"Eagle eyed" ability - a minor (25%) / medium (50%) / major (75%) chance for allies (stackable with other heroes) to spot a stealthed attacker - thereby removing that ability from that attacking hero for its attack (ie doesn't bypass DR, hits will trigger on hit mechanics.

The sorts of hero I would associate such an ability would be creatures, rogues, scouts, elves, spirits (you don't surprise them) and perhaps sentries or guards

I've been considering that most warrior heroes aren't particularly scary when it comes to end game meta and was brainstorming ways to make them more interesting. Especially those who are slow round heroes - essentially cannon fodder since they rarely live long enough to attack.

Consequently, i'd like to suggest the following hero ability mechanic.

"Riposte", a percentage chance of on being hit (minor (25%) / medium (50%) / major (75%) chance) of attacking instantly (outside of normal attack round initative order) any enemy hero who hits that hero. This auto attack is treated as stealth, so that it doesn't power up the enemy or trigger abilities. Also it stops two opposing heroes with Riposte from auto attacking each other to death in the first round! Maybe even have it apply half normal chance for any attack received via stealth

      . . .

Sounds interesting, I've seen two seperate things that add up to that if put together, but not full stealth. Stealth is a rogue thing. In my mind it's not appropriate for a warrior to have stealth. It's why I came up with the "Pierce" idea for one of my sheets. The warrior could get through DR, but not the other stuff because he or she is not that good.

I also received a sheet for one of my threads where the suggested hero can counterattack (at a small % chance) after getting hit.

I had just meant the riposte / counterattack being treated as stealth purely to stop run away suitations of 2 counter attacking units hacking each other to death in first round. However on reflection, that might be quite funny.

Another option might be to change how stealth works. In full disclosure, I have been trying to build a decent stealth squad, but have not been able to achieve full 4x4 synergy of mult-hitters.

However, one thought goes along the lines that full stealth should apply only if you attack first. Because how can you be stealthy if I attack you first (I know you're there, I see you, I attacked you first), and how can you be stealthy on a second attack (you attacked me, I should now know someone attacked me and be on guard unless I'm stunned).

The other thought is that perhaps stealth should diminish for each subsequent attack by every stealthy hero. Afterall, stealth is surprise, and some surprise should be lost after each attack (again, unless I've been stunned).

I like that, but I would think, at least for the first round in your scenario, if a hero has both stealth and flank, even if they attack second, the flank would be an added surprise if you will that would maintain the stealthiness

Today, as I fought against a team with phoenix, I had a new hero idea: What about a hero, that gets revived, when an enemy dies, or a hero, that revives a team member, when he kills an enemy. What do you think?

                  Phoenix down for the win

I don't see why that wouldn't fit under the abilities of a spirit healer like Wynne, Anders or Fiona (it is an ability in game). So I don't see a problem there.

But how would it affect the game balance?

                  Nevertheless i like this idea

I too like this idea, revival will be a good counter to increased assassination rate. I would also suggest that rarer is a hero there should be lesser chance for its revival because you have to put more effort in killing a 3* MD compared to an 1* Alistair for example.

So i thought about some new mechanics and wanted to share with you all.

Confusion : Attacks and confuses enemy. (i.e. attacks a single target (row-column) and confuses - attacks all with a x chance to confuse each.) Confused units will have a chance to (or %100) to attack his own teammates (or heal-power gain enemy. i mean whatever the confused unit's mechanic that helps its party, will work for the enemy party for that turn).
Purify : Dispels all negative effects from its party (power drain, curse, stun, slow etc.).
Purify (2nd version) : Dispels negative effects from its party (power drain, curse, stun, slow etc.) + Dispels positive effects from enemy party (a bit similar to curse)
Purify (3d version) : Dispels all negative and positive effects from enemies and allies (including self)
Resurrection : Resurrects a dead allied toon to fight for 1 round (this ability more likely to resurrect the fastest dead unit). resurrected units can not be healed or gain any positive buffs.
Enslave (or Necromance) : Rises a random dead enemy for 1 round to fight for its cause. Risen enemy can not be healed or gain any positive buffs. (The unit must be killed-last hit- by the toon with the enslave ability in order to trigger the ability.). once per match (%100 chance) or one toon per round (an increasing %x chance for every round killing-last hitting- the enemy but not being able to enslave).
Clone : (This one is for slow round and with high hp toons). Creates a clone of itself (it can be triggered only if one or more allies are dead-except LCs.Enemies more likely to attack the clone-even much more likely than flanking. Clone disappears as soon as it gets attacked. As for all attackers or row-column attackers it absorbs % 50 aoe damage for allies before it dissappears. if hit by multi hitters-like rjs- it gets hit until it looses all health-since this is counted as 1 toon hitting it-, if survives all 5 hits still dissappears.
Clone (2nd version) : All same mechanics, but creates a clone of a RANDOM friendly unit. (you can add here, more likely to clone x kind of toon).

Thx for reading, Any change&improve suggestions are welcome.

When you side with the Templars in DAI you can understand the importance of their powerful magic suppression ability, at a point to weaken the breach itself!

                          Mechanic: Power gain suppression

Description: A toon's aura that reduces a percentual amount of power gain the enemy can accumulate in the battle.

Example: K. Commander Delrin Barris and KCC, both have 25% power gain suppression ( making it a 50% suppression)

In the enemy team there is power gainer, let's say Fen'harel.

Fen'harel has a base of 20k power plus he has gained 60k power from hits, but since there is a ( 50% suppression) Fen'harel will only power up 60kx50%= 30k power

The result Fen'harel hits all with an aoe hit of 20k base + 30k gained power = 50k; instead of 20k plus 60k =80k power

This can keep Power gainers at bay without the needing of a curse mechanic, and even if the toon is un-cursable which may be the case in a couple of months, you can always suppress their gain in a x% with this mechanic

This could be attractive as a new mechanic for Templars, who have been forgotten for a long time.

I really love your powergain suppression idea, Dumat. Templars really need some anti-mage edge in HoDA, and this works really well for that.

I had an idea for a new mechanic that I've floated in a couple of the character sheet suggestion threads, which I will now go ahead and toss here. =)

Traps/Mines: Heroes who have trap or mine mechanics would inflict damage on any enemies who hit them. The traps or mines could also have a chance to inflict status effects on the enemy who hits them, like stun, slow, drain and/or curse.

The character I proposed for this new mechanic was Three Eyes, the Artificer specialization trainer in Inquisition. But it would obviously also work for any rogue character that might employ traps. The traps or mines could also be subdivided as they are in game, such as caltrops, which in Inquisition cause continued bleeding damage, might cause some kind of continuing damage to the enemy (which would also be a new mechanic), and elemental mines, which could focus more of causing status effects like stun, etc.
When I proposed Three Eyes, I wrote him up as a non-attacker, as he would damage anyone who attacked him. But the mechanic could also work with an attacker, so long as the attack is balanced with the damage the character does just by being hit.

How about a hero that leads the charge and is guaranteed to strike first in your line up?ThIt can make better use of team power gains and other mechanics that sometimes get wasted in 1rd battles.I hate when say for example Bianca attacks before vt in back row and she kills toon then he comes along and attacks the 1 remaining.I feel like an attack has become wasted. Also could have a clean up toon that will always attack last!

                              1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.
Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                              2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                              3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                              4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                              5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                              6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                              7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
