  • Game is in need of an overhaul

The game for me has gotten rather boring now. Here’s some things I’ve thought need to be done to make the game more interesting. I think maybe the game has been designed for quite awhile now because the developers need to make a profit and they don’t want to upset the player base by fixing characters that are op and stack dupes. To me that makes the game suck a lot to see like a little cat that’s stacked and quick.

    1. The main thing, I think to do right away and is easy to do, is to setup the pvp where one race is vs. another like dwarves against blighted. At least do this more- haven’t seen it for quite awhile.

    2. Like I mentioned I think you should revise alot of the heroes and do away with allowing dupes because it’s stupid sometimes. It will be a better game experience after awhile.

    3. Make the pvp bonus less so it’s not so easy. One race vs another is the best pvp setup I can think of.

Yeah, axing dupes is not gonna happen. Dupes are an intrinsic part of the game and too many players have dedicated too much time and resources in-game to pimp out their dupe metas. I cannot imagine the gem recompensation that would have to distributed for people to even consider having to give up their mythic forted triple Kitties and quad Barts. With Kitties available in Origins I'm finally able to compete with the metas in PG. You're not taking away my demons mate.

To address your second point - we have been revamping heroes on a regular basis. These things take time - we can't just revamp the entire catalog of heroes all at once. That's 4 years of hero development and release we're talking about, and revamps take no less time than a new release, from a designer standpoint. We've also been doing some group revamps - this was shown with the Qunari revamps and there will be more like this as we continue moving forward.

We've also been creating new Quest events to shake things up a bit, and have more of these coming as well.

We won't be removing duplicates as a permanent thing. We have some PVP events that are set up as no-dupe, but we would not make this permanent primarily due to the reasons Zanir stated above.

The PVP bonuses are set up in such a way as to allow those enhanced groups to take on current meta squads. Making them any less means you'd just be seeing the same meta squads all over the place all the time

As we go through the groups and get more heroes revamped, we will come to a point where there are multiple viable groups for being able to do more "Group vs Group" style events. With some groups being clear winners with others being sorely lacking, it would still cause PVP events to be lopsided by giving two groups a bonus. We're getting there. Balance is coming back among multiple groups.

that's where I disagree with pvp bonuses...I think enhanced groups should always be able to handily beat any groups that aren't enhanced, including meta groups...if you have a dwarf bonus, 4 decentty leg forted dwarves should be able to smash a kitty/bart group...

why on earth would anyone take the effort to put up an enhanced group if their meta group can mow over anything?

Isn't that what Lyeshal said? Enhancing groups to allow them to take on the meta. I think you're saying the same thing
But I would like to see PvP return to enhancing groups instead of abilities (like stunners or power gainers) since these often incorporate the meta.
Luckily, once they fix the assassination/key exploit, Barts will be removed from the equation. The problem with them now is that they can defeat pretty much anything so long as they attack first (exaggeration, I know, but the point remains). And Kitty was on the way out until we got THO with its passive drain...

not exactly...Lyeshal said "take on meta groups". I said "handily beat" If dwarves are enhanced group, they should be able to handily beat triple kitty/tho group, 4 barts, 2 TEO/banner/chair, Fen/banner/tho/spirit, etc...

a decent way to accomplish this would be to have a huge penalty for non enhanced heroes...

I think at the moment the game is well balanced. Of course multiple Bart's are great, but so are THO's, Kitty's and Ferelden to name but a few. People will look for an edge and those with the most resources will have a bigger edge regardless and tbh people with 4xBart squads have probably dropped 7,000 gems to get them at over $400! They are essentially paying for the game so smaller spenders and F2P can come along for the ride.

Toons are constantly updated, there are new events and key revamps. Great teams can be farmed from The Gauntlet and Drop A Hawkes among others. Guilds have their own chats, we have great wars. It has never been easier to get great toons, gears and mythic fortifications.

GCP's and CP's have been overhauled with better drop rates. New rune setup means you can have runes up on a PG squad whilst fighting in a GW whilst also levelling up toons and collecting gold from banished plane keys. I think at the moment the game is in the best state I have ever seen it in.

I feel absolutely compelled to say that I LOVE the direction the game is going in. The devs and CG staff have made vast strides to improve the game from what it was 4 years ago. Of course there are a always going to be a few things that need to be tweaked, but balance is introduced with each content update... its only a matter of time when Kitty and Bart are all but forgotten.

I must disagree with OP's statement in that the game has gotten "rather boring". I think these past couple of months have been the most exciting! The nexus events, gauntlet, AND pvp are more than enough to keep me busy whether I'm playing casual or when I'm grinding. By the way... love what you fine folks did with Banished Plane!

Great job to the CG team! I'll be drinking Dos Equis more often.

Yeah, maybe the original post might have been accurate 6 months or a year ago, but holy moly there have been waves of revamped heroes, new drop rates, tons of changes for a bit.

I guess it just goes to show you can't please everyone.

Having been here almost from the start I think the game is in a really good place right now and the team have done an excellent job keeping it updated. I'm not saying there are no issues at all, (looking at you Bekeymoth + quad Bart god squads), but in general the game is now far more accessible to new players and more balanced at a meta level. Red Lyrium, Demons, Elves, Ferelden, Tevinter and to an extent some others such as Qunari are viable at the highest level and the game in general has far more content with the amazing nexus and weekly pvp. Gear has ensured that even among meta teams there is a reasonable amount of variation and in general there is good amount of content.

I agree with Lyeshal that weakening the pvp buffs for specific factions will encourage players to simply keep using meta teams; buffs should allow weaker factions to equal if not surpass the meta.

As for duplicates; more synergy, less dupes is the general goal and for the most part I think the game strikes a decent balance between rewarding paying players, (I am f2p), and providing an incentive to build non-dupe squads. No-dupe events mean that many players, myself included, will build no-dupe reserve teams out of their best factions. For example replacing a FH with SH in an Elvish team.

Just my thoughts on the matter. I'd like to see some new heroes to rival the current meta arrive in the future but in the meantime the revamp of the Hawkes has made for some interesting teams. Many other factions still need to be updated but I appreciate the time and work that goes into this makes it a long term commitment. With so many heroes already released I personally think the best thing for the game would be making many older units more viable. Also please make more main quest maps with stupidly difficult nodes!

I have to say, I LOVE every aspect of how this game has been changed. I walked away beyond frustrated last year but have come back to something that has an amazing crew running things to keep HoDA running strong for years to come. Well done to all involved.

                      Posting Suggestions
In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                      1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion. Keep in mind that in most cases, posts are not intended to offend. If you find yourself taking offense at a post, take a step back and contact the person directly, or appeal to a moderator for arbitration. Don't make the situation worse by posting in anger and lashing out at the original poster. Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                      2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section under the appropriate heading.

                      3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available. Additionally, before posting a bug, check the Known Issues thread to quickly see if the staff is already aware, and to find the discussion thread about that issue.

                      4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                      5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum and/or game.

                      6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                      7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
