  • Team Builds

Just started playing this past weekend. Saved up my first 260 Crystals and then bought another 260 to open up two packs. I got lucky and managed to score a mesh of legendary units, however as I'm new I don't know which ones are really good and to focus on and which to leave until later on. Also I could use some help in team building as right now I'm just throwing together what I believe are my strongest units of compatible colors together.

Anyways, here's what I have for Legendary units.

3 Star: Thom Rainier, Viscount Varric, Gereon Alexius, Spirit of Cole

2 Star: Grey Warden Knight (Large), Paragon Caridin (Large), Warden Commander Duncan, Grey Warden Oghern, Vengeance Anders, Renn

1 Star: Harvester Orsino (Large), Hybris (Large), Knight Captain Cullen, Ritts, The Lost, Emerald Shale (x2)

Also I haven't bought the $10 Starter Pack which includes the following: 2* Dragon Flemeth (Large), 3* Lady Seeker Cassandra, 2* King Alistair, 1* Varric Tethras

Would any of the units from that Starter Pack fill in some holes that I have in my current units? Also what should I be saving my diamonds for now?

I think I did this roster correctly...

Also Wisp Use & Fortifying: Legendary Wisps for fortification for sure, but what about Epic/Rare Wisps? What do I use to fortify Legendary Units? Do I use Epic/Rare Units?

IMO with the current toons you have it looks like you would be favoring a grey warden/white faction squad and i would highly recommend buying the starter pack as it will give you some good toons to play with and add to your squad (LSC and KA are phenominal, DF is decent but DM much better). Im not a professional but these are the squads i would recommend

    LC: GWK
    FR: Thom, GWO
    BR: WCD, KCC

If you end up buying the pack i would replace KCC with KA (king alistar) and i would look to make a squad around LSC (you already have viscount varric so thats good)

It's only $10 so I think I might as I've spent that much in worse ways.

With the Starter Pack in mind, how would you adjust the Roster? Right now I just tossed all the 3*s onto a squad to clear maps and I need to level everything else (everything is mid 20s atm).

        Hi, welcome

I agree with Combofied, wardens is your best team at the moment.
I also love your VV, but you don't have a good team for him at the moment.
I recommend the starter pack too, KA and LSC are awesome heroes, but you need to get some more teams to complete your team.
LSC is effective in a rogue squad with AL, RJS and VV dupes.
For a KA good team you need KA dupes and Fereldan banner dupes.
Best LC for your squads are DM and AHD.
It is difficult to build a good full squad when you are starting, so you will need to be patient and save gems to open FP when they are available, usually the best older heroes are in it. Or buying the new heroes in CP/GCP.
Another advice: you should do some Origins Gaunlet runs, you can get a good elven and a good demon squad there and it will help you to compete and complete map quests and nexus. Besides gear and tome drops are pretty good.
I use leg and mythic wisps to fort my heroes and the others (rare, epic and lower ones) for consuming and level my toons.
I always fort my units with leg and mythic toons or wisps, but I only use toons for fort if I have several dupes, I prefer wisps for forting my heroes, it is quicker to level them and to get the same dupe.
I consume all rare and epic units to level my toons and I only keep in my inventory a team of each one because it could be a rare or epic pvp and you will need them.

        Good luck!

So I did a few Origins Gauntlet runs (well, as far as I could go) and had enough gold to buy some packs and got rather lucky.

My most notable addition is Archdemon Urthemiel and I did go ahead and get the Starter Pack.

Since I have limited resources at the moment, which units should I work on tiering up and fortifying first? I would imagine I would want to focus on my strongest units regardless of team competition because I don't have enough of one type anyways? And if that's the case, which are my strongest? Just all the 3-star?

Welcome! Good to have you with us! Far as build order, I like a Thom and a VV first, then build the remaining wardens to round out that team. VV will make a nice cornerstone for a quick team a little later. The $10 pack is really worth it, LSC and KA are huge and can fit into many teams. With that, you probably can round out your warden team and make it through the origins gauntlet, maybe even the meta gauntlet; both have some amazing drops and will get you well on your way to building some excellent teams. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I just want to make sure I have the correct Warden team (only because I keep reading how great LSC is).

              Large: Grey Warden Knight
              Front: King Allistair/Thom Rainier
              Back: Vengeance Anders/Warden Commander Duncan

Is that the Warden team I should be working on?

Also, Thom Rainier is such an awesome unit, can take a hit and give one too. Have had just him remaining on many maps and in PvP.

Thom is very good, but the best by far is King Alistair; use on him your best gears and fortifications.

About the rest, Vengeance Anders is the worst; I suggest to replace him with Lady Seeker Cassandra, she's not Warden but still the power/heal raising after each death (friend or foe) will be very, very good for all... Thom will become a beast as people dies around him!

Great, thanks for that. I put her in and used double XP Runes and used a key to unlock the Double XP event and now just power leveling them up. They were all in the teens/twenties now I have everyone in the 40s in a matter of minutes.

This has also boosted my personal level up a lot so my total energy has doubled. This is huge because the biggest issue for me and not actually doing the maps is that I'm at the map stage where each is 14 energy per run. So 2-3 runs and I'm out of energy prior, now if I wanted I can actually do several nodes and feel like I'm gaining ground again.

If you want to level up someone really fast I suggest removing everyone but that one hero and running the XP nexus with runes. Last time I checked, regardless if they are Max level or not, all XP is split amongst your entire team so if you have only one person they get all the XP. Good way to powerlevel your best toon

That's really good to know. So far I've done the double XP event 3 times before running out of keys, I've just been trying to level up EVERY legendary unit I have. It's a WIP but also is trying to put together my first team.

                        Sorry, another question.

Do I just want to focus on King Allistar and Thom Rainer? I mean, right now I have them both at II, should I work on Cassandra, Duncan and my large unit to II as well or just get Allistar/Thom to IV as fast as possible?

                        • #13
Sadly, you may have made the same mistake I did when I was new. As a general rule, use consume to tier up any/all legendaries to IV before you level them. The reason is that their tier determines how much health and power they go up when they do level. Example: John Doe I is a level 10. He goes up to level 11 and gains 10 health and 10 power. Had he been tier II he would have gone up 15 health and 15 power.

Regarding your last question, there's really no right or wrong answer. I would just start with your best toon, get it to IV, and then move onto the next. But if you want opinions, were I you, I'd go KAlistair --> LSCassandra --> Thom

I'm typing up a noobs guide to this game that I wish I had when I'd started a few months ago. Keep an eye out for it!

It really doesn’t matter. They all get to the same values in the end, no matter how you do it.

                            • #15
So they DO all come into play if you level to max first, and then tier up? That's good to know. I'd heard differently.

Regardless, a player would still want to tier up before leveling, if only because consuming gives you free XP. XP which is lost if you level to max first and then tier. At least until you free up more levels.

In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                              1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.

                              2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                              3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                              4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                              5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                              6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                              7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
