  • Team composition for a newbie

    Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and new to the game as well! I'm playing HoDA since last month and with other players we are trying to create an Italian community to gather players and let other people know about the game. However, I need some advice to make a better use of my Heroes, since I'm stuck with a Nug team that I don't like anymore.

The link to my roster is this (You need to set the Filter in order to see my heroes..I think I've made something wrong!)

Thank you to everyone in advance!

I like writing posts like this.

I shall go through your list in three ways. First, overall look. You have only one 3* and few multistar heroes overall. There are a few cool toons in there, but you don't have enough to build any really competitive cohesive team.

Secondly, let's look at heroes individually, who's worth something, who sucks. Keep in mind that this is my personal take on it, so YMMV.

Your best toon is Kitty, no contest. She's the linchpin of the best meta demon teams, but the problem is that she works best paired with other great demons or in dupes of herself. Good news is that all components required to build a top-tier demon squad are available to you right now at no gem cost. The Origins gauntlet is probably within your reach as far beating it, or almost there. Origins can drop Kitty, Envy, and Possessed Ogre Commander. That is your best chance to build a competitive team, so turn your attention to farming Origins until you have 2-3 Kitties, at least one Envy and of course POC.

If you're only gonna rock a single 3* for now, you could do a lot worse than NecroDorian. He's very impressive individually, but really shines in a good mage team. On a slow round, after a few deaths, he's a killer. He's one of those toons that can clear the board by himself in the right team.

Avvar War Nug is relatively new and is quite impressive to look at, but his problem is that he's part of the Avvar group, and the best Avvars are Jaws of Hakkon, and they already have their own group.

Clarel is famous for her nukes. She used to be the unquestionable queen of the Wardens, but with recent Warden revamps she might have to give up the crown to King Alistair. Still, she's a great toon and works in mage setups outside the Warden group.

Avernus shines in Warden mage teams. Keep him around. I have it on good authority that later in the summer there will be an opportunity to obtain Janeka, another of the Warden mages.

Carver Hawke is a solid toon, though he won't be stealing any shows. He does have that monstrous assssinate chance though.

Grey Warden Knight is well... a Warden giant, so... yeah, keep him.

Support toons are kind of past their prime, but Giselle and Dowager will help you out before you get some better heroes.

Hakkonite Defender--he's okay. Shines in Jaw of Hakkon teams. Forgettable otherwise.

Last but not least, Emerald Graves Nug. He has this unique anti 3* toon ability. I've seen some deceptively effective creature teams with him.

Now that that's out of the way, let's see what squads you can field for now.

First thing that came to mind was Wardens.

    LC: GWKnight
    FR: Clarel/Dorian
    BR: Loghain/Avernus

Next, some strange combo of Kitty and Dorian for max powergainz:

    LC: Risen Ogre
    FR: Dorian/Clarel
    BR: Avernus/Kitty

(this team has two heroes who convert the asskicking you receive into power, so take advantage of that; this is pretty much just sticking your best toons together)

You could try Chantry, I guess...?

    LC: Nuggalope
    FR: Divine Vivienne/Divine Guard
    BR: Giselle/Genitivi

Lastly, and perhaps with the most unassuming potential... nugs. Yep. Stop laughing. Take a look.

    LC: Nuggalope
FR: Emerald Graves Nug/Red Lyrium Nug
    BR: Invisible Nug/Nug King

(really, these nugs could be your golden ticket to farming Origins for demons and running higher level Nexus quests; all but the Red Lyrium Nug have decent stats, all nugs buff each other like crazy, Invisible Nug is stealth, hits first, and powergains the rest when it's hit, and Nug King will get extra 125% power before the battle even starts just for being in a full nug team; honestly, this is the first thing I would try; the problem is that nugs have no place in the top of the competition, so it's not really worth it investing in them long-term, while toons like NecroDorian and Kitty will be a much better ROI if you gear and for them)

        Welcome to the forum Olaf!
Zanir gave you awesome tips, I agree with his post.
I would add you should do some runs at Origins Gaunlet to improve your squads, you can get a great demon and elven team, kitty, envy demon, POC, Fen Harel and Spirit Champion would be great additions for your team.
And you should join to a guild to get some extra rewards and gems.

Zanir , your answer is awesome! So many good information and tips, I will start building the teams and see if I can manage to finish the Origins Gauntlet, because last time it didn't went so good :P

Another quick question is: I have some Myth Wisps, should I fortify Kitty with them or just wait for other 3* Heroes?

Thanks to the others as well, I feel very welcomed in this forum and the community is amazing.

Kitty is the best 1* toon in the game and definitely worth mythic forts, but I would wait until you're able to reliably run Origins and grab some good toons. See what RNG gives you and base your toon forting priorities on that. You don't want drop your mythic wisps on Kitty and then pull dupe Spirit Champions and be a sad panda.

There's quite a bit of info to absorb to get into the game, I didn't want to drop 10 pages on you. If you have more specific questions, the shoot me a PM or mention me here and I'll respond.

I agree, I would wait to have a fully demon squad, you never know if you will get an elven squad first than a demon one, kitty, SC, envy, POC and FH are great toons, I would fort them with mythics and tier them if you get them.

Customer Support will not discuss the details of any player's case with any other player, but will provide support to you under our established, confidential policies. Asking why your request was resolved differently than another player will result in your post being deleted.

Violation of these terms is grounds for removal from EA Capital Games games.

What should I do if I see objectionable material on the forums?
It is important that members recognize the real-time nature of this forum: the moderators cannot always monitor the contents of posted messages, and as such depend upon you to inform them when participants or their messages are violating our policy as stated here. To contact a moderator, please use the Flag Post function on the post represented by a flag:

What happens if I break the rules?
At best, your post will be edited by one of the moderators and you will be issued a warning. If the offense is more serious your post will be deleted. Posting "why was my post edited/deleted?" etc. will only make matters worse, so please don't. If a moderator has not sent you a message stating why, please send the Lead Moderator a message asking for a reason.

Should you have already been issued warnings and continue to break the rules, you will be issued an infraction - your posting privileges will be disabled for three days, but you will still be able to view the forums as a guest.

For persistent and deliberate rule-breakers your account will be "Banned". That means you are no longer welcome on these forums and/or games and your account will no longer function in them. If you re-register, your new account will be banned as well.

              Posting Suggestions
In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

              1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion. Keep in mind that in most cases, posts are not intended to offend. If you find yourself taking offense at a post, take a step back and contact the person directly, or appeal to a moderator for arbitration. Don't make the situation worse by posting in anger and lashing out at the original poster. Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

              2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section under the appropriate heading.

              3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available. Additionally, before posting a bug, check the Known Issues thread to quickly see if the staff is already aware, and to find the discussion thread about that issue.

              4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

              5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum and/or game.

              6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

              7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.

In addition to the Forum Rules, you are bound to the general EA Terms of Service both on these forums and in the game. Links to the TOS are as follows:

              EA TOS English
              EA TOS French
              EA TOS German
              EA TOS Russian
              EA TOS Spanish

By registering and posting on these forums, you agree to be bound to the rules and disciplinary actions set forth above.
