  • [Returning Player] Team advice and general help?

So, I've jumped back into the game and considering that at the start I was F2P I decided to invest a little money this time. (Also maybe look for a guild?)

I came out the other end with the following units:

    Dragon Morrigan *3
    Advisor Morrigan *2
    Knight Enchanter Vivienne *3
    Dorian * 3
    Sera *2
    Spirit of Cole *3

Professor Braham, Seeker Cassandra, Sister Leliana and Josephine, all *1

Any team recommensations as well as what I should aim for in the future? My immediate goal would be to build up a team that can take insane and ludicrous difficulties at the nexus so I can farm up other legendaries (my last playthrough only earned me Merill who seems underpowered now) and the gauntlet so I can farm up the tomes I need.

I realize that this is not something I can do quickly, but any advice would be appreciated.

PS: Is such a high density of 3* and 2* Heroes normal for grand champion packs? I remembered that they were really rare when I left, or was that just when you try to farm them up in the Nexus?

Welcome back, good to see a fellow (kinda) F2P returning Good pulls, and you chose a good week to buy as many of those are refeatured this week only. So, normally such high density isn't normal, you prob had good RNG luck. That being said, the GCP/CP pulls have nondupe rules and guarantees on them now that did not exist before (tap the picture on the pack itself to see your guarantee counters). Those help you to get better heroes.

As far as what you got, I like using Cole, KEV, AM, and Josie. DM is still an excellent LC as well. You'll get some better heroes over time, but this will make for a good start. One other suggestion, I recommend finding yourself a guild, the good ones have excellent communities who discuss strategy and help you to learn the new mechanics of the game as you are ready. I think it's fair to say, looking at the thanksgiving contest thread (which I recommend you enter for a fast 50 gems) a lot of folks find being in guilds helpful and enjoyable. Let me know if I can be of assistance there, and welcome to the forum! Reach out anytime with questions!

Thank you for the recommendations. I'll just work my way through it from here on out, now that I know which creatures to consume into. (I love the multi consume update)

How do I tell whether I found a good guild? Is there a promotion thread or something?

Edit: Is Sera still a valid option for farming Nexus on high difficulties? I remember that she was strong, but is she still usable now? I found a post talking abut her nerf.
Edit2: Nevermind, found the guild thread... right on the front page. Talk about missing the forest for the trees.

Sera can be used, but not as effectively as before ( her stats were adjusted a while back since she was OP). She's still pretty good for nexus purposes though, but it may be tough on the upper levels like Lud. BTW the drop rates have just been revamped so you'll find they drop quite a few more legendaries than before.

Looks like you may have found, but in general there's the "guild hall" area of the forum. Many guilds advertise there. At the top, there's a guild index thread as well. It's not fully complete, but a number of guilds have put a reply there to describe their guilds. there are quite a few to choose from for many different styles of play, so just best to start out picking one that sounds comfortable to you. If you are looking for more specific advice, let me know who you're considering and I'll be happy to offer what I can.

Thank you I'm a bit more casual I guess? I'm fine with playing for an hour during evenings, but as far as during the day goes my shedule is a bit irregular. I find I enjoy both pvp and Nexus quite a bit, so there's no preference there.

I also just joined Griffon's Flight, which according to the guild spotlight is for newbies. My level is a little high for that but considering that most things about the game changed I guess I have to re-learn much.

Ok great to hear! That's actually one of the teams in my guild, so welcome aboard! Your playing style is fine and will fit in well there. Also, if you are interested, we have a Line chat room with members from all seven of our teams where we interact, talk strategy, get to know each other, etc. if you would like to be a part of that, just send me a PM there with your ingame name and I'll add you in. Thanks for joining!

              Welcome back to HODA.

Nexus were revamped and drops are much better now, you can get great heroes there, gear, wisps and tomes doing some refills it is worth it.
If you open the store regularly, you will also get new heroes and you will build your squad quicker.
You should try to get some BP, there are awesome heroes that will help you a lot and they are a good addition as TLI, RJS, Solas, Ap Solas, Varric Artificier, Cole, Clarel.
The best toons currently are demon squads, mages with Xenon and rogues, you should try to get some kitties, gibberings, POC and TDT opening CP and GCP.
Other great heroes for your squad are LSC, VV, ND, Xenon, MD, Gurn, GoTS, SC, IA, Hivernal or GD, you should go for them if you have the chance, some of them are available at CP/GCP, but to get the other toons you will have to wait for a FP or competing for them on the leaderboard.
You should be patient at the start, it is difficult to get all the heroes that you need.
There is a pack counter at CP/GCP, you can see if you are close to get the featured toon, you will get the guaranteed every 2 GCP or 20 CP, but if you are lucky, you could get it opening less packs.
You can ask me if you have any doubt, there were a lot of changes.

              Good luck!

                Welcome back Ireyon!
I just love it when players return and they're amazed with all the new features
props to the HODA team for refreshing it time and time again!

Odesius and Grey Warden have got you pretty much started on the right path, so i'm gonna try something a little different.

If you're feeling the itch to spend a little more, some of the awesome inquisition heroes are being featured right now, like the below heroes.
They help a lot in farming the Nexus.
Lady Seeker Cassandra - Buy GCP/CP <-pray to the RNG gods so you land her. makes a lot of teams instantly useful with her powergain on any death mechanic.
                Inquisitor Ameridan - Buy GCP/CP
The Last Inquisitor <-you can get from Bloodstone Pack if you're lucky, if not, buy GCP
                Red Jenny Sera<-Buy GCP/CP
                Necro Dorian<-Buy GCP/CP
                Just to name a few

                TLR
Buy a whole bunch of GCP this week. chances are you'll get an even more awesome Inquisition squad.

Also, check out Hodacodex.com and praise the awesome fan HodaCodex who devoted his time and energy to create this website.
It's a great resource where you can see an updated list of heroes and filter them out accordingly.

Welcome back! I too recently returned to the game and I think you'll likewise be impressed by Nexus drop rates. I had to realize most my older toons are out dated but given good forts and a Tome of Ascension there's plenty of ways to make those old one stars shine. (Looking at you scout Harding, no matter your stats I love you)

I personally dumped most my gold into the gear packs for the first few weeks since gear didn't exist when I left. Helps get those older squads up to insane Nexus level and once in a while a Tome of Ascension drops. The KP had a huge revamp too, got tons of legends from there in my month back, including 2 star toons!

Also, glad to hear I'm not the only FTP returning player who decided to drop some cash when coming back. I thought it was rash, but I'm extremely impressed with how much this game has improved over the years and the devs totally deserve it

I am compelled to say this... If you have the gems, buy 2 GCP now to land KC and Ferelden Banner. You'll thank me later. Also, Odesius is the best guild leader ever... so chat with him about joining our guild! =P

At best, your post will be edited by one of the moderators and you will be issued a warning. If the offense is more serious your post will be deleted. Posting "why was my post edited/deleted?" etc. will only make matters worse, so please don't. If a moderator has not sent you a message stating why, please send the Sr Moderator a message asking for a reason.

Should you have already been issued warnings and continue to break the rules, you will be issued an infraction - your posting privileges will be disabled for three days, but you will still be able to view the forums as a guest.

For persistent and deliberate rule-breakers your account will be "Banned". That means you are no longer welcome on these forums and/or games and your account will no longer function in them. If you re-register, your new account will be banned as well.

                    Posting Suggestions
In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                    1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.
Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                    2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                    3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                    4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                    5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                    6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                    7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
