  • WAR TABLE: Development Plans - January 2019

Welcome to another War Table! As usual, this is a long post, and we encourage you to read everything, and then read it again, before starting to make any responses.

    Game Changes
HoDA will be undergoing some changes in the new year, but our team remains committed to bringing you new and exciting content. As part of this, we’re going to be making some significant changes to our release schedule. We want to share this with you now, so that expectations can be set appropriately in the coming months.

    Next Client Release
Currently, we do not have a solid set of features for our next client release. We are still planning on the improvements and additions previously discussed, particularly regarding Gear and Rune Selling, and Guilds. Additionally, we are exploring an option to implement bulk pack purchasing. As we solidify plans and priorities, we’ll provide more information.

    Ongoing Development

    Game Mechanics Balancing
We recognize that power drain resistance and bonus damage calculation are still major issues within game balance, but we have not been able to address these yet. Please rest assured that they have not been forgotten, and that we will deal with these as soon as we are able.

    Content Releases
New hero and gear releases will no longer be coming on a fixed 3-week schedule. Instead, we will be reducing the frequency in which heroes and gear are released, and may be released through packs, PVP, or quest events. This reduction in releases frees up time for us to improve and expand on other areas within the game.

We are ramping up our efforts to rebalance existing heroes, including massive updates to Power and Health stats to bring every Legendary and Epic hero up to par with the current guidelines, one group at a time. Full scale revamps will occur less frequently until we have made at least one pass through each group to update the stats.

Additionally, we will continue to provide new Quest events, including Gauntlets and Raids, as an avenue of new hero and gear release, as well as to provide new challenges and more ways to obtain specific rewards. This will also take the form of a new difficulty level within quest events to provide a greater challenge to our higher-level players.

    Pack Catalogs
We are rethinking the way our Champion and Grand Champion Packs work, particularly in conjunction with the reduction of release frequency. The new design of this is still a work in progress, and more information will be shared as it becomes available. In the meantime, the current Premium Catalog will be abandoned in favor of weekly Group Features. When new heroes are released, they will be available for a short time through the New Release Pack, and available as part of their standard Group Feature weeks.

Pack refreshes will no longer occur – once defined and set, each of the available packs will become fixed in their catalogs. This applies both to hero and gear packs. We do have one final refresh scheduled for the gold-purchase hero packs, and then we will be implementing the fixed catalog for every pack, including Bloodstone and Iron Packs.

We expect the changes to the pack catalogs to begin in the second half of February.

Thank you for your commitment to the game!
Above all, we want to assure you that we will be maintaining the game for as long as you’ll have us around. Your support means everything to us. Transitions can be a difficult time for everyone, and we appreciate your patience as we figure out this new paradigm.

This is a labor of love for our team, and we cannot express enough how grateful we are to have this community of players who have supported us this far.

    Battle on, Heroes!

Oh my... I'll be honest here I'm a long long term fan of the game and have been playing since the tree chopping for Merill era. I love the game and its been part of my life. But nowadays I feel like the only exciting things happen in the game which makes me comeback and play are the new heroes release (which only happens every 3 weeks) and now you guys plan to reduce it even more? Every other events are pretty much just a grinding fest over and over and I say this with deep sadness, I feels like they are getting dull after a while.

Dont get me wrong, i think new maps and gauntlets and raids are super cool, but whats the point of doing those when all you get is a 15th lady cassandra or a 9th piece of gear. If cg want to make the game grindy( like it is now ), perhasp implement a mechanic to combine same type of stuff to make them stronger (like combine same heroes after t4 will help increase some random stats or abilities or combine 10 piece of gear to get better stats gear ect. As of now, whats the point of grinding after you get 4 copies of a hero or 10+ copies of the gear u already have.

Revamp heroes are cool I guess but it offer nothing new to the game, not really imo. I want to get excited about new things and spend money on the game like when I used to spent hundreds chasing the first defender heroes that came out. I really do. I think CG is focusing on balancing the game and revamp heroes a bit too much which doesnt feel like exciting stuff to me. I would rather we have a much slower revamp schedule and more frequent new stuff

i like the idea of ‘We are ramping up our efforts to rebalance existing heroes, including massive updates to Power and Health stats to bring every Legendary and Epic hero up to par with the current guidelines, one group at a time.’
It will revive many toons who are just sitting there in our rosters.

Actually not surprising. Inquisition came out 4 years ago and the new game is rumored to not come until 2021. Since the heroes can only be based on what Biorware has released or put into the codex, the hero pool was bound to start to run dry at some point.

Actually, the hero pool is no where near being dried at this point (especially with all the different versions of each hero), I suspect the problems lie more in the realm of limited inventory capacity.

It's a lot of factors that went into this decision.

I too love the idea of revamping more legendary and epic heroes; especially some older beloved characters like Anders, Fenris and Tallis need some love too.
One thing I would love to see in the future is expanding the inventory capacity, I know for me personally as a collector where I keep a lot of cards even some uncommons and almost all epic heroes and then add the duplicates of the many cards, 800 is not enough.
It could be for 250 gems you can add an additional 100 more space to your inventory or something along the lines, just a thought.

New released Heroes - best way to spend gems in game, especially if they are in meta, or multiplies of them are in Meta. Remember the hype around Barts, The Highest One's and so on. People love to spend gems to get them multiple.
What happens now. Meta Shales, Advisors you can easily get from Gauntlets. Gear for them you can easily get from Raids. Balance is good, but people don't need now to spend hundreds of gems to get new meta heroes from packs. There are plenty of minor heroes from 1-3 Dragon Age. Such as Red Templar Knight and others. So we can "shut down" the list of heroes by adding them.
For ex: Inquisition group is very big, and well balanced. So you don't need to add new heroes to this group. Take another. For ex Red Lyrium or Avvars. I mean, new heroes are the engine of the game, one of the biggest part, that keep people's interest.
Other ideas are brilliant as usual.

The balance was always one of the greatest problems of the game, and now that they're trying to fix that people are complaining? A huge part of the catalog is currently useless, and yet people want just more heroes? Seriously?

Yep. I'm talking about donations in game, that keep game alive. If revamping of the old heroes will help with that, so let it be. But if not? Devs shouldn't forget to add new imbas in game, to keep the process of spending gems unstoppable.

First of all, you aren't donating anything, you're buying a product, just that.

Also, do you really like to buy heroes just to know that they eventually going to be obsolete and useless? Seeing loved characters forgotten just because the meta doesn't allow most of them?

The game needs to focus on the right things, and the devs know the time they need for each.

I know what I am doing in game, please don't talk like that to me.
I don't say that the devs should do that or this, I just ask not to forget about adding new meta heroes in game. I prefer to collect new heroes than "16 Lady Seekers Casandra in all variations" as someone said previously. This game is about different views of how to play and what to do here in game. Someone closed library (gallery) with all 4tier heroes, someone made all heroes full mythed and 30% x2, someone colected best sets in game in different variations and so on.

By how much did HoDA exceed initial expectations?

Years. And we'd like to keep exceeding expectations for years to come

In many aspects of my own personal life, I've dubbed 2019 "The Year of the Reset". This seems to have swept into the game, as well, and we recognize that sometimes to move forward, we first need to take several steps back. We've been going at a pace for a few years now that just isn't sustainable anymore. It's time for a breather, and we want to fix what's broken before we start adding anything else onto the pile.

This doesn't mean new heroes won't ever come - indeed we have several heroes already scoped out to be released this year. But we also haven't been able to give you all other things you want because we've been so focused on getting heroes out at the pace they've been going.

New Content comes in several forms - not just new heroes. I've got a number of things up my sleeves for what we'd like to get out to you, including new quests, new gauntlets, new raids, better-formed PVP events.

With so many having provided feedback about the balance of the game, the small-batch updates we've been doing simply haven't been enough to make the sweeping changes we want to ensure more heroes can be used from among what you already have. When more of the heroes you already have become viable, you're naturally going to be spending more time playing with them and finding new uses for them, essentially making them new heroes again. It's been mentioned before - doing a revamp takes nearly as much work as creating a new hero, so we've been going in small batches. The result of this is that we're still leaving large chunks of heroes out of becoming viable.

The first step will be stats. Getting everything up to snuff with the current health/power guidelines should allow for several heroes to come back on the table just from that alone. Then we can start looking at what heroes simply don't have the auras/abilities to compete properly. We know you've spent a great deal, either in time or money, to build up your catalogs of heroes. It's a shame to see so many just rotting away on the bench. You've paid for a product, we want you to be able to use that product.

Do you buy movie ticket knowing that it will be obsolette after you watch it once or twice, do people spend thousands on a gaming computers/ smartphones knowing it will be obsolette after 2-3 years? People do that all the time. Most of us buy stuff for the experience, and only new imba heroes give that andrenaline experience. Who cares if its gonna get obsolette. Live for the moment, everything gonna get obsoletted eventually

At best, your post will be edited by one of the moderators and you will be issued a warning. If the offense is more serious your post will be deleted. Posting "why was my post edited/deleted?" etc. will only make matters worse, so please don't. If a moderator has not sent you a message stating why, please send the Sr Moderator a message asking for a reason.

Should you have already been issued warnings and continue to break the rules, you will be issued an infraction - your posting privileges will be disabled for three days, but you will still be able to view the forums as a guest.

For persistent and deliberate rule-breakers your account will be "Banned". That means you are no longer welcome on these forums and/or games and your account will no longer function in them. If you re-register, your new account will be banned as well.

                              Posting Suggestions
In the attempt to create a compromise where everyone is happy, the following suggestions are also recommended:

                              1. Be civil and courteous. This forum is visited by people from all over the world, of different ages, genders, religions, and backgrounds, and are each entitled to their own opinion.
Also, see Flaming, Right to Privacy, and Hatred.

                              2. Make sure that your message topics fit the topic description of the forum in which you are posting. This is for your own benefit - for example, a question regarding a bug or problem should be posted in the Feedback section.

                              3. Use the search function before posting, particularly if the question is problem oriented. Most technical questions have been answered before, and solutions are freely available.

                              4. Make sure that you have followed #3 before posting

                              5. Read the sticky threads at the top of each forum - they are there for a reason, and generally contain information relevant to the forum.

                              6. Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.

                              7. If you find it easier to express yourself en français, auf Deutsch, en español, in Nederlands, in Italiano, or any other language, post in the International Discussion forum. Hopefully someone who speaks the same language as you will be able to assist you. All posts in other sections (non-International) of the forums must be in English, so please make use of Google Translate if you need assistance with translation. Posting in English will allow the widest range of people to assist you.
